With public liability claims on the increase, it became clearly apparent that we needed to address this whole issue far more closely within our company, from the point of incident to case presentation.

Towards this end we appointed our own in-house legal counsel – developed a set of guidelines – reporting forms and procedures for our cleaners and managers to adopt which clearly indicate the extent and detail of information that needs to be provided in their respective reports.

Workshops have been carried out in each state to convey the importance of this material to our Managers and Site Supervisors with updates and feedback on the processes included as part of the process.

Since appointing our own in-house counsel over four years ago and implementing our own claims management processes, we have settled in excess of 350 claims.

Because our in-house counsel is admitted to practice in each jurisdiction, we no longer have to outsource matters that become litigated to external lawyers. This means we have more control over any potential resolution of the matter and a lot more control over our costs exposure.
